Second mpox case of 2025 detected at Peshawar airport – Pakistan

The second MPOX case of the year was detected on Thursday when a five -month -old baby arrived in Peshawar from Qatar, health authorities said.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s health advisor, Ehtesham Ali, confirmed that the case was detected at Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar, taking the total of the province to 11 from 2022.

“The Public Health Reference Laboratory has confirmed the presence of the MPOX virus in a five -month -old baby. The boy had recently arrived in Pakistan at Peshawar airport with his parents since Qatar, ”said the health advisor while providing details of the case.

After the confirmation of the case, the Department of Health began the detection of the baby’s parents to guarantee their health and safety.

In addition, a letter was sent to the airport authorities, requesting passenger details for those who traveled near the patient to guarantee comprehensive surveillance.

The advisor emphasized that quick measures are being taken to avoid the spread of the virus and safeguard public health.

The first case of MPOX of Pakistan of 2025 was reported on January 25 when a 35 -year -old traveled from Dubai to Peshawar, after which the KP Health Department intensified the exam at the Khan Bacha International Airport.

All cases of MPOX informed so far in passengers have been detected in passengers who arrived from abroad. There have been no cases of local transmission of the virus, according to officials.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared MPOX an emergency of international concern on August 14, 2024.
