The helicopters amount to a bright blue sky in the south of Alberta, while the search for five -year -old Darius Macdougall extends to his fourth day.
Adam Kennedy with Search and Rescue Alberta said Wednesday afternoon that the search radio of three kilometers is expanding to 6.6 kilometers.
The land, he said, is part of the challenge.
“Every time we have technical land like this, it definitely slows people of a security aspect,” Kennedy said. “Only the amount of fall in the ground; the amount of rocks in the area.”
Approximately 100 people are part of the search and rescue efforts in the field.
After consulting two survival doctors in the desert, Kennedy said the team had hope and continues the search efforts under the assumption that MacDougall will be found alive.
The entrance to the camp where the child disappeared on Sunday is closed to the public.
Macdougall, who is autistic, was reported as missing after not returning from a walk with six of his family members, none of whom is adults, near his camp in Island Lake Campground, near the Alberta-BC limit.
Gina Slaney with the Alberta RCMP confirmed: “Darius is verbal, but there is a concern that he does not interact well with the people who shout his name, so that is taken into account, that if the search and rescue personnel listen to calling his name, he might not answer.”

The search equipment has been in rotating shifts and sleeping in a nearby biblical camp.
“During the night last night, the search teams continued the searches on the floor backed by an RCMP helicopter, two search and rescue dogs of the Canadian Search Dogs Association. There are 68 search engines for a combination of Alberta and BC equipment that work along with two RCMP dog equipment, a helicopter and multiple drones today,” Kennedy said.
The equipment also continues to look for bodies of water inside the radius.
Kennedy said that the low temperature last night was “favorable” at approximately 11 C, with similar conditions expected on Wednesday night.
According to the police, it is not suspected that the dirty game, but the RCMP maintains broad investigation and observes each possible angle of the disappearance.
