School bus driver, courier charged months after 7-year-old London, Ont., boy killed while leaving bus


Two men have been accused after a six -month investigation into the death of Dante Caranci, seven, who was hit by a car while going down a school bus on a busy rural road in Lambeth in southwest London, Ontario.

Police announced the charges against the school bus driver and the driver of the vehicle on Thursday.

“A fatal collision that involves a child is something that no first responder wants to attend,” said London Chief Thai Truong. “This research took more than six months due to the complexity of the reconstruction of the scene, the need for judicial authorizations and an evidence analysis and technical evaluations.”

The driver of the vehicle, Atir Gayyur Mir, a 47 -year -old player from Milton, worked as a messaging and delivering, the police said. He has been accused of dangerous operation of a vehicle that causes death.

The bus driver, José Lema, 82, from London, has been accused of criminal negligence that causes death.

LEMA did not take the appropriate security steps, including the guarantee that the traffic was stopped, before allowing Dante to leave the bus and cross the two -lane road, according to the police.

The reconstruction analysis showed that motto would have seen Mir’s car come and not decrease the speed when Dante got out of the bus, and it is alleged that Mir’s vehicle should have seen, the sergeant of the interim staff. Michael Anderson told reporters.

Dante was beaten in Longwoods Road on December 16, 2024. He was leaving the bus, which was stopped at Murray Road’s intersection, was beaten by the passing vehicle. The driver involved remained in the scene. Dante died the next day.

Police said Thursday that Mir, who was driving a 2023 Honda driver, did not try to stop for the detained school bus, who had his lateral arrest and the activated lights. The bus driver was also responsible for guaranteeing security, they said.

“Bus conductors receive specific training to keep children in their respective safe buses, and it is imperative to follow this training to avoid tragic incidents like December 16,” Anderson said.

Dante, a student of the Catholic Elementary School of Our Lady of Lourdes, has been remembered as a “cheerful and radiant child” who loved Lego, teddy bears, Fortnite video games and playing hockey and football.

The neighbors have said that cars continue to accelerate that stretch of road, including the passage of detained school buses.

Charles Bakker is the father of four children and a nearby resident who has been pressing for security improvements, speed traps, additional signage and strips of rumble from Dante’s death.

Bakker said it is important to focus on the Caranci family now.

“I just want to say that my heart is broken,” he said. “As a father, I can’t imagine how this has changed the life of the Carani family. I can’t really afford to think about history too deeply because it makes me cry.”

Mir attended the Court of London on Wednesday, police said. It will make another appearance in August. Motto is scheduled to appear before the court at the end of July.
