NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday sought to know the Centre’s stand on the implementation of the proposal to deliberate on the legal guarantee of MSP, discussed almost a month after the prime minister announced in November 2021 the withdrawal of the controversial farm laws that led to the blockade of NH- 44 agitating farmers, mainly from Punjab, for over a year.

Jagjit Singh Dallewalwho is fasting unto death, told Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan that the Center should be directed to implement the December 9, 2021 proposal, which included a discussion with farmers on MSP legal guarantee.
The court said the Supreme Court cannot direct the implementation of a proposal meant for discussion. “Why can’t the Center declare that its doors for negotiations are open?” Justice Bhuyan asked. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said the Center is concerned about farmers across the country and could not discuss the issues with a section of them.
