NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has asked the Tamil Nadu government and the governor to resolve the issue of appointment of university chancellors. A bench comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan said it will intervene if the government led by MK Stalin and Governor RN Ravi fails to resolve the differences before the next hearing date on January 22.
“For the next date, if it is resolved well. Otherwise, we will resolve it,” the court said in an oral observation.
The top court was hearing a plea filed by the Tamil Nadu government challenging the governor’s actions on passage of bills passed by the state assembly, appointment of cabinet ministers and approval of search committees to recommend rectors. in state universities.
Attorney General R Venkataramani, appearing for the Tamil Nadu governor, told the court that there is a deadlock in the appointments.
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for the state government, said the state will be allowed to record the new developments.
