Saquon Barkley signs 2-year contract extension with Eagles, per reports

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing the Saquon Barkley corridor with an extension of two years and $ 41.2 million, according to ESPN and NFL Network. The agreement will turn Barkley into the best paid corridor in the history of the NFL and the first player in the position to win more than $ 20 million a year.

The contract includes $ 36 million guaranteed, plus $ 15 million in incentives, according to ESPN.

The general selection number 2 in the 2018 Draft, Barkley spent the first six seasons with the New York giants before signing with the Eagles last year.

Barkley’s first season in Philadelphia was fruitful. The ball ran 345 times for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns in the regular season. Then he added another 499 yards and five scores on the way to the victory of the Eagles in the Super Bowl 59.

Barkley, 28, initially signed a three -year agreement with Philadelphia last March. His departure from the giants was infamously documented in the “Hard Knocks” of HBO last summer, when the main office of New York was shown saying that Barkley was too expensive with what the team was spending on the field marshal Daniel Jones. (The giants would release Jones in the middle of the season).

“I felt that it was a bit disrespectful, to be honest, because it’s like a slap,” Barkley said about New York’s decision on the Scoop City podcast of The Athletic last July.

Barkley’s decision to keep the Eagles in the long term should help them maintain their formidable rushed attack. Philadelphia took second place in the NFL last season with 179.3 yards per game.
