The Kremlin said that Trump had raised “the problem of a high immediate fire” in the call, his sixth call known since Trump returned to the White House in January, but the Russian leader said that “he will not go back.”
“Vladimir Putin declared that Russia continues to seek a political resolution to the conflict through negotiations,” said Kremlin’s foreign policy assistant, Yuri Ushakov.
But the Kremlin has not offered concessions on its central demands that Ukraine should give territory and give up united NATO.
While kyiv or the White House did not say what the call would imply, Zelenskyy is expected to renew their calls for more military aid and US sanctions against Russia. Ukraine is still recovering from Trump’s decision this week to stop some deliveries of US military teams, which include vital air defense systems.
“Without truly large -scale pressure, Russia will not change its dumb and destructive behavior,” said Zelenskyy, emphasizing that “mainly” depends on the United States to “change the situation for better.”
Michael Bociurkiw, the main member of the Group of Experts of the Atlantic Council, said that Trump’s inaction, and his absolute blames Ukraine sometimes, is probably seen by Putin as an invitation to advance on the battlefield.
“Putin sees this as almost an invitation to bombard, bombard Ukrainian cities and take more territory,” Bociurkiw said in a telephone interview in the city of southwest Odessa.
