The former mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani, suffered several injuries, including a spinal fracture in a car accident on Saturday night, according to Michael Ragusa, who identified himself as the head of the security of Giuliani.
Ragusa said in a statement published on X on Sunday that Giuliani’s vehicle “was hit behind at high speed” on a road on Saturday.
“It was transported to a nearby trauma center, where it was diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and bruises, as well as lesions in the left arm and the lower part of the leg,” Ragusa said in a statement, that Giuliani’s social networks represent reposses.
He attended more comments on Giuliani’s condition, Ragusa said in a statement that the former mayor was “of great spirit” and “completely alert and conscious.” Giuliani’s doctors are “satisfied with their progress,” Ragusa added.
Ragusa also pointed out in a separate social networks that the car accident “was not a directed attack.” He did not provide information to NBC News about whether a suspect was identified or in custody.
The former son of the former mayor, Andrew Giuliani, acknowledged the incident in a publication to X, thanking “all the people who have communicated since they learned the news about my father.”
“Your prayers mean the world. As a son, I can tell you that I feel honored to have a father who can call the hardest sob that I have seen in my life. He added.
Ted Goodman, who served as Giuliani representative, did not immediately respond to the NBC News request to obtain more details about the incident.
