New Delhi: The Union Cabinet is likely to approve two rope projects that connect the main pilgrim centers of Hindu and SIJS – Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib, Wednesday.
The base stone for these projects was placed in October 2022 under the “Pariyojana Plvatmala”, whose objective is to boost connectivity in mountainous areas and increase tourism.
Both projects will be implemented in Build operate and transfer. The sources said that, although the cost of the SonPrayag-Gaurikund-Kedarnath string project 13 km long was previously estimated at around 1.2 billion rupees and the Govind Ghat-Ghangaria-Hemkund Sahib (12.5 km) project was collected around RS 850 Crore, these have been reviewed.
The rope to Kedarnath would be one of the longest strings in the world and would be built at an altitude of 3,583 meters above sea level.
Once completed, pilgrims and tourists can get to Kedatnath from SonPrayag in just 60 minutes. Currently, it has been 6-7 hours. The planned plan that 3,600 passengers could travel in one hour per address.
The rope proposed by 12.5 km to Hemkund Sahib through Ghangaria will reduce travel time to approximately 45 minutes. Ghangaria is the entrance door to Valley of Flowers. The road from Govind Ghat to Hemkund Sahib is an steep and hard track of 19 km and takes about 12 hours to reach the sanctuary.
