A ceiling collapse due to heavy rains killed a 17 -year -old girl and wounded three other family members in the Punjab Rawalpindi district in the early hours of Tuesday morning, rescue officials said.

From the end of June, the monsors of the monsoon have wreaked havoc throughout the country by causing mortal floods, landslides and displacement, particularly in vulnerable areas, poorly drained or densely populated. The ceiling collapses are a particularly common occurrence due to a large number of mud houses that cannot resist the heavy downpour.

According to the 1122 rescue, the ceiling collapse occurred in Doultala Road de Gujar Khan Tehsil.

A family neighbor informed that the side walls of his house collapsed and the ceiling gave approximately 1:30 am while sleeping.

According to the neighbor, “all people in the neighborhood rushed to the rescue” by obtaining the information. The victims were removed from the rubble and taken to the hospital.

The emergency officer of Rescue District 1122, Muhammad Sibghtullah, said a family member, a 17 -year -old girl, was seriously injured and died before arriving at the hospital.

“Unfortunately, despite all efforts, he succumbed to his wounds, mainly due to severe head trauma,” Rescue 1122 confirmed.

“His mother and his two older sisters were also injured,” he said, adding that they were all transported to the Doubla Rural Health Center.

After treatment, the family returned to attend the victim’s funeral.

The neighbor added that the family had been injured by beams and iron bars while sleeping.

In addition, he added that the head of the house was a “poor barber, the only support of the family.”

This was confirmed by other neighbors, who have urged Punjab Prime Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, to provide a package of urgent relief to the affected family for the reconstruction of their home.

Gujar Khan’s commissioner did not respond to comments requests.

Several houses have also collapsed in the vicinity during the recent rain spells, resulting in the death of cattle in the village of cream.

In July, a man died and three others were injured by a ceiling collapse during heavy rains in Lahore, which also wreaked havoc in several other cities of Punjab.

Meanwhile, three people were reported dead in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Lakki Marwat last week when the roof of a room at home collapsed in the middle of heavy rains, while at least two others in Bannu were injured when the roof of his house collapsed due to severe rains.
