Senator Ron Johnson, a Wisconsin Republican, said this week that he wants to celebrate Congress audiences about a discredited conspiracy theory about September 11 attacks, saying that there are “a lot of questions” about the most fatal terrorist attack in the history of the United States.
“There are a lot of questions,” said the president of the Permanent Senate of the Investigation Subcommittee on Monday, in an interview about the Podcast of conservative activist Benny Johnson on Monday.
“What really happened on September 11? What do we know? What is being covered?” Johnson said about the 2001 attacks. “I guess there is a large amount covered in terms of what the US government knows about September 11.”
When asked if he planned to celebrate hearings, Johnson said: “I think so.”
“There are a lot of questions that I will ask,” said the senator.
When more details were asked about Johnson’s plans, a spokeswoman told NBC News Wednesday that “a potential hearing will depend on what information/documentation our office obtains.”

Johnson’s comments focused on a long -standing claim on a building in the World Trade Center complex that collapsed hours after the twin towers were shot down by airplanes.
The Wisconsin senator, who has a history of amplifying conspiracy theories, said in the interview that the investigation into the building that came down, building 7, was “corrupt” and suggested that his collapse was the result of a “controlled demolition.”
Representative Mike Lawler, a Republican from New York, abruptly criticized Johnson’s comments and urged Wisconsin’s senator to “stop selling conspiracy theories.”
“Respectfully, Senator Johnson should stop selling conspiracy theories about the worst terrorist attack in the history of our nation and one that forever altered the lives of many of my New York companions,” Lawler wrote in a post about X. “Shit like this dishonor and fails to respect the innocent lost lives, our brave responders and all the families and survivors who still carry each 9/11 day”. “
John Feal, a demolition supervisor in the zero zone in New York and long -standing defender for lifeguards, described Johnson’s comments as “silly and pathetic.”
“If Ron Johnson really wants to know what happened on September 11, I can meet him,” Feal told CNN in an interview on Wednesday. “I will let him know that innocent lives were lost on September 11. The heroes died running towards those innocent lives, and later, 137,000 people are now sick due to the consequences of September 11.”
Feal said he will be on Tuesday to advocate against the Trump administration cuts to the World Trade Center health program, and said that this is what Johnson should question.
“Ron Johnson’s priorities are the other way around and is a silly man,” Feal said.
