NAWABSHAH: A gang of five or six armed robbers barged into the residence of MNA Zulfiqar Ali Behan near Moro town, took his family hostage and made off with cash and valuables worth millions of rupees on Monday morning.
Apparently, they used the legislator’s Vigo, as well as their own car, to escape. The Vigo, however, was found abandoned far from the residence.
Initial information gathered by the police suggested that the outlaws arrived in a car at Dheran village near Moro town of Naushahro Feroze district, climbed the outer wall of Behan’s residence to jump inside and took everyone inside hostage.
They comfortably collected cash, jewelery and other valuables worth millions of rupees and boarded their car and the MNA’s 4×4 vehicle to escape to their hideout.
The police found the 4×4 vehicle abandoned near the Dars police station, a few kilometers from the town.
The MNA was not present at his residence when the robbery occurred and no official or private security guard was mentioned in the initial investigation report.
Soon after the robbers escaped, all the officers and police station staff involved, along with a forensic team, IT and geofencing staff, a fingerprint tracking unit, as well as some private fingerprint trackers, rushed to the MNA’s residence and started doing their respective jobs. They were personally supervised by Naushahro Feroze SSP Mir Rohal Khan Khoso.
In his immediate reaction, MNA Behan told reporters that it could have been a conspiracy involving some influential figures in the area.
The SSP expressed confidence that police investigators will reach the culprits very soon with the help of fingerprint trackers.
A formal FIR of the incident was yet to be registered.
People’s National Party (PNP) president and senior Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) leader Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, one of MNA Behan’s main political rivals, visited the shocked lawmaker to express his condolences over the incident.
