The rescue teams evacuated 160 Varado Tourists of Naran in the Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after sudden floods, caused by heavy rains, extended in parts of the region on Wednesday, according to a 1122 rescue spokesman.
The monsoon rains, which fall in the region from June to September, are crucial for the livelihoods of millions of farmers and food security. However, they also cause ravages to trigger fatal floods, landslides and displacement, particularly in vulnerable areas, poorly drained or densely populated.
This year’s monsoon rains continue to open many parts of the country, which leads to the authorities to publish a warning of urban floods for several cities.
Mansehra’s rescue spokesman, Amir Khadam Khan, said Dawn.com Those 160 tourists were stranded after the floods hit Naran, Jalkhad, Barwai and Besar.
“1122 rescue staff crossed the drainage of flood on foot near kissing to access more than 160 tourists and stranded vehicles,” he said. “All people were safely evacuated and accommodated in nearby hotels.”
He added that the Orange road was also blocked in multiple locations. However, after the “tireless” efforts of 12 consecutive hours, the National Road Authority authorized them all traffic, with the support of the Police and Kaghan’s development authority.
The spokesman said that the rescue operation still continued in the area, and the vehicles of the stranded tourists also recovered successfully.
He added that during the operation, Rescue 1122 provided first aid to seven or eight people with minor wounds, severe body pain, hypoglycemia, vomiting and other ailments. Fresh water was also provided to tourists.
“Fortunately, no serious victims were reported,” Khadam said.
Meanwhile, sudden floods caused by heavy rains caused the death of two children due to the collapse of a house in the Hazara division in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Abbottabad police spokesman Azam Khan said Dawn.com That two children were killed after a house collapsed in Bakot, Abbottabad, Tuesday night.
“The bodies were recovered by the locals,” he said, adding that the girls were between two and three years old.
Last week, 250 tourists and passengers stranded on the Babusar highway were rescued by the District District administration, the volunteers, the police, the 1122 rescue and the army, according to a spokesman.
