Nueva Delhi: India condemned the vandalism of the founding father of Bangladesh on Thursday Sheikh Mujibur RehmanThe residence in Dhaka and said it is unfortunate.
On Wednesday, the protesters gathered near the residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Dhaka- now a memorial museum, responding to a call on social networks for an “excavator procession” that coincides with Hasina’s speech.
“It is unfortunate that the historical residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rehman, a symbol of the heroic resistance of the people of Bangladesh against the occupation and oppression forces, was destroyed on February 5, 2025. All those who value the struggle for the freedom that promoted To Bangla identity and pride are aware of the importance of this residence for Bangladesh’s national conscience, “the ministry said in a statement.
“This act of vandalism must be strongly condemned,” he added.
The neighboring structure, which served as offices for several organizations of the Awami League, was also destroyed. The protesters damaged murals with the sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The protesters also lit ‘Sudha Sadan’ on Highway 5 in Dhanmondi, the residence of the deceased husband of Hasina, Wajed Mian.
The houses of his cousins, the heak of the Heddin Uddin and the sheikh Salauddin Jewel, in the city of Khulna were also destroyed by the protesters.
The students eliminated the name of the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall of the Dhaka University in protest.
After vandalism, the expelled and the former Bangladesh prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, requested justice.
“They can demolish a building, but not history … but they must also remember that history comes,” he said in an emotional speech.
