The RCMP horsepower program is worldwide renowned to produce the black Hanoverians who work in the iconic musical journey, but not all powerful give the qualification.
This week, horse lovers have the opportunity to have their own Canadian history as the RCMP stables launch the sixth annual auction of horses through the Procurement Canada website.
Sixteen horses are on sale, with a tender that opens at $ 5,000. Also in the auction block: more than 70 doses of horses for artificial insemination breeding.
“They are very well raised horses, they are very pleasant,” said the sergeant. Sarah Padre, instructor of the Musical Paseo.
Much after the patrols mounted from RCMP ended, it has maintained their equestrian legacy through the musical walk, which presents a troop of mounted officers who execute intricate cavalry drills choreographed to music.
Since the first public exhibition recorded in Regina in 1901, the musical journey has become a comprehensive piece of Canadiana.
Since 1960, the musical journey has been based on RCMP stables in the Ottawa Rockcliffe Park, traveling throughout the country and abroad to act.
To provide horses the necessary characteristics that will be trained for the musical trip, the RCMP has executed its own reproduction program since 1939. These days the horses are Hanoverians, selected by their quiet disposition, size, shape and solid black coat.
‘Exceptional temperament’
Not all horses born in the RCMP breeding farm in Pakenham, Ontario, meet the high standards necessary. But that does not mean that they are not protruding in a variety of other equestrian disciplines, said the RCMP.
“Hanoverians RCMP are recognized for their exceptional temperament, athletics and prestigious lineage,” the force said in a statement announcing the auction.
Among the horses that are sold is Vimy, a young “safe, brave and sensible” foal with a sensible, and brave nature, a six -month stallion with a “fluid and flexible movement with a remarkable suspension” that could be “an exciting perspective for the serious competitor”.
Then he is legal, a 11 -year -old “striking” mare that is no longer up to the physical demands of the musical journey after surgeries in his left fetlock and the left hock.
“She simply does not make our cut here on the musical walk,” the mother explained. “And she is not great to have so many horses near her. We travel with 16 to 32 horses very close, and she was simply not handling that.”
But she remains an “intelligent and intelligent mare with a certain personality” that shows an excellent way on the fences: “careful, the shotgun and confident,” according to his list.

Having been trained for three hours a day, legal and many of the Hanoverians should make versatile sports horses.
“They have had a great beginning of the base, especially the oldest, but definitely our breeding, we are known for that,” Parent said.
“Being the owner of one of these RCMP horses means becoming part of a living tradition that dates back to 1876,” said the RCMP in his statement.
Offers in the horses will close for two days on October 7 and 8.
The Earl, High Spirits and Morricone III have contributed the “frozen artificial insemination doses” for which tender start at $ 100.
The auction income is reinvested in the RCMP horsepower breeding program.
