Rawalpindi police said Wednesday that they arrested a man for allegedly killing his daughter for ‘honor’ for not eliminating his account on the Tiktok social networks.
The first Information Report (FIR) of the case was recorded at the Rawat Police Station a day on the complaint of the agent of Chief Shahbaz Anjum Kayani under section 302 (punishment of Qatl-I-AMD) and section 311 (exemption or compound of QISA) of the Pakistan Criminal Code.
According to section 311, the State becomes the plaintiff, since this provision is not composed, and the case must proceed to a logical conclusion. The punishment for ‘honor’ murders, under sections 311 and 302, includes the death sentence or life imprisonment. The 25 -year sentence option under section 302C is not applicable when section 311 is invoked.
The FIR said the incident occurred at 11:30 am per day in Dhok Chaudhrian, within the limits of the Rawat Police Station when Kayani received a notice of a source about the suspect asking his daughter to eliminate her Tiktok account, but she refused. He added that the suspect was angry and shot his daughter on behalf of the “honor,” fleeing after the crime.
A police statement said they had arrested the victim’s father and recovered the murderer, a gun, his power, adding that three teams were formed under the supervision of the Saddar Police Superintendent of Saddar Nabeel Khokhar for the task.
Rawalpindi City Police officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani said Dawn.com that “the police recorded the case as a complaint because the deceased’s family was portraying the incident as suicide. Later, police investigation revealed that it was a murder. The police presented the case to avoid any commitment in the future.
“Similar cases also registered before, but when a family member becomes the plaintiff, he reached a commitment after six months or one year. The police recorded the case as the complainant to accuse the suspect with solid evidence.”
Police also said that postmortem analysis had been carried out, evidence of the crime scene was collected and that the investigations were ongoing from all angles.
“The crimes against women and children are intolerable; the defendant will be processed with solid evidence and will guarantee a fair punishment,” said the CPO.
Tiktok is very popular in Pakistan, partly due to its accessibility to a population with low levels of literacy. In it, women have found audience and income, rare in a country where less than a quarter of women participate in the formal economy.
Last month, the popular influence of social networks, healthy Yousuf, was shot dead in his house in Islamabad by a man whose advances had repeatedly rejected, police said.
Yousaf had accumulated more than one million followers on social networks. The incident caused public indignation and broad coverage of the media. The case remains under investigation.
Cases of honor murders prevail in Pakistan. From January to November of last year, a total of 346 people were victims of “honor” crimes in the country.
The previous two years also saw a constant increase in murders related to the so -called ‘honor’. In 2023, the country saw a total of 490 incidents of murder of ‘Honor’, while in 2022, up to 590 people lost their lives to ‘honor’ the murders.
In January, a man who had recently brought his family back to Pakistan of the United States confessed that he killed his teenage daughter, motivated by his disapproval of his Tiktok content.
In December, Amina Bibi, a mother of three children, was shot dead by her brother, Zafar Hussain, in the Pakpattan Qasimpur area. Hussain told the Police that he thought his sister had a “questionable character.”
In November, a five -year -old mother was brutally murdered in Faisalabad by her husband and younger brother, supposedly to protect the family’s “honor.” Accused of having an adventure, the victim was attacked at home with bricks, which caused fatal injuries. Later, his body was thrown into a Nullah through a donkey car.
A man murdered four women in his family in October, including his mother, in an attack of anger about his Tiktok videos. He told the police that the videos spread “immodesty and shamelessness, tarnishing the reputation of the family.”
