The Historical Project of the Airport Authority of Pakistan (PAA), the reconstruction of the track of the Quetta International Airport, received the Fidic Asia Pacific Prize for Excellence in Engineering, the authority said.
The Fidic Asia-Pacific awards honor excellence in engineering consulting throughout the region, highlighting outstanding projects, emerging leaders and industry strength, according to their website. The winners are announced at the Asia Pacific Infrastructure Conference in three categories: Powerhouse Awards, Exceptional Projects Awards and emerging leaders.
The Award to the Reconstruction of the Track on the Quetta International Airport was conferred at the 2025 Fidic Asia Pacific Conference held from July 15 to 17 in Islamabad, Paa said Sunday.
“This distinguished award recognizes the successful delivery of the longest and larger rigid track in Pakistan, executed in sectional phases in a user aerodrome operating set,” said the PAA statement.
“Surprisingly, the project was delivered with zero claims, zero security incidents and without closing operations, establishing a new reference point in the development of aviation infrastructure.”
The prize was jointly conferred on the PAA and the project consultants in “Recognition of their effective collaboration, technical experience and commitment to safety and efficiency throughout the project life cycle.”
The updated track was completed at an estimated cost of RS5 billion, and received its first PK-3250 flight from Islamabad on May 31, 2023.
Underlines further the importance of the project, Palomino Elvira, an international mediator and international advisor accredited by FIDIC in global construction contracts, extended an invitation to the PAA to present the project as a case study at the next FIDIC conferences in South Africa and France at the end of this year, the PAA said.
This recognition marks a moment of pride for the Aviation and Engineering sectors of Pakistan, placing Paa’s excellence in a global scenario, the statement added.
