Levana Ballouz, a trans woman who was convicted of murdering her partner and her two children on the southern coast of Montreal, will fulfill her sentence in a prison of men.
The Canada Correctional Service spokesman (CSC), Kevin Antonucci, confirmed the decision in an email, saying that “the initial evaluation in this case has been completed and that the place of imprisonment designated will be an installation for men.”

In the email that confirms the place of imprisonment of Ballouz in a prison of men, the CSC said that each accommodation application “is evaluated case by case” and requires an evaluation of the individual’s needs and risks.
The CSC said that the application will be denied if canceling and security concerns cannot be mitigated and that “alternative measures will be implemented to address gender -related needs.”
