As families flee from urban centers for the long weekend of Canada’s day, a popular Ontario Eastern escape is still under a warning that children must be maintained inside or under nearby supervision.
An alleged attack of animals last week in Quadeville, Ontario, left an eight -year -old girl with potentially mortal injuries. Now there is a concern among tourists and premises for the safety of their children.
“The parents now, and I like grandfather with grandchildren in that area will definitely be more attentive,” said Bev Stevenson, who works as a supervisor in the country market in Combermere, Ontario.
Stevenson said the local population doubles in the summer because families love the area, with their many lakes and cabins, as an escape from the life of the city.
But the lack of shared information about the apparent attack last week has allowed rumors to spread, he said.

The Provincial Police of Ontario (OPP) urges parents in the Quadeville area, Ontario, to keep their young children indoors or under nearby supervision, after a girl was found on Tuesday with serious injuries. The Provincial Police of Ontario has not said much about the attack, including what type of animal they think could have been behind it.
An OPP spokesman told CBC on Friday that they could not provide an update on the investigation.
“All this is a bit involved in mystery, and that is what makes many people get to the store asking if we have heard something,” said Stevenson.
“It would be good to have some answers.”
Dave Green, a tourist originally from England, has not been able to find answers either. He stopped at Stevenson’s store during a visit to the cabin of his sister -in -law.
“It’s very worrying, of course it is,” Green said. “But nobody seems to know what the details are. So you must be cautious about what you are doing in the community.”
In the absence of concrete details, Stevenson said the rumors have grown and extended.
As they arrive at the community, tourists “will listen to many stories, and unfortunately, not all those stories could be exactly correct,” he said.
“That is why I hope that OPP can disseminate some information with exactly what happened, what we must take into account, what we must do to keep safe if there is an animal out there.”
