Punjabi intellectual Manzoor Ejaz is no more – Pakistan

Washington: Dr. Manzoor Ejaz, a venerated mentor of many intellectuals and academics in southern Asia in North America and beyond, died on Sunday morning. He was 78 years old.

Born in Sahiwal, EJAZ was an economist by profession, obtaining a doctorate in Economics from the University of Howard in Washington, DC, spent more than two decades as an economist with the Government of the Columbia district from 1990 to 2012.

Despite their professional achievements, its true passion lies in the promotion of literature, philosophy and cultural studies.

He was an outstanding historian of Punjabi’s literature and made significant contributions to the study and preservation of Punjabi’s language and poetry. His commitment to the cause of smaller ethnic groups and religious minorities, both in Pakistan and abroad, was evident in his writing and defense.

He was also a firm critic of the oppressive regime during the martial law of General Ziaul Haq, continuing his intellectual struggle from abroad.

As the main editor of WichaaAn online Punjabi portal since 2018, EJAZ kept alive the flame of Punjabi literature. His contributions to literature included a series of important books, such as Punjab ki tareekh kei buniyadi massa’il.
