The Minister of Education of Punjab, Rana Sikandar Hayat, has announced summer vacations for all schools in the province as of May 28 in the middle of an intense heat wave.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Education, Hayat also announced the reviewed school times due to the growing temperatures. The new school times will be observed from 7:30 am to 11:30 am from May 21 (tomorrow) until the beginning of the summer holidays.
The Punjab government decided to give the summer holidays a few days before the scheduled date of June 1 due to the extreme prevailing heat wave in the province as in other parts of the country.
The minister said previously that consultations are being made regarding the announcement of the summer holidays and that the decision will be made in a few days. He said that efforts are being made to overcome academic losses due to the closure of schools while guaranteeing the security and well -being of students.
Hayat said that the security instructions have been issued by the interested departments in the middle of the seriousness of the heat wave, and added that students can protect themselves from the effects of the scoring climate following the guidelines.
Last month, Punjab schools were advised to alter work hours or declare the holidays in early summer if excessive heat persists.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued urgent directives to educational institutions and district administrations throughout the province in view of the threat of heat wave. Institutions were advised to take immediate measures to protect students and extreme heat personnel.
The advice included schools that alter the hours of work or declared the holidays of early summer if excessive heat persists, immediately suspending all sports and outdoor activities, ensuring uninterrupted availability of clean and cold drinking water and maintaining functional ventilation, fans and cooling systems in schools and students who wear loose and light clothes.
The general director of PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, sent a letter in this regard to the departments of School Education and Higher Education.
Another heat wave to grab the country
The MET department has issued a warning for another heat wave from May 20 to 24. The prognosis of a heat wave is produced to the back of a similar notice issued on May 15.

“An shallow channel of the wave of the West is affecting the upper parts of the country,” said advice, adding that it is likely that the meteorological system persists over the next four days.
It is likely that the temperatures of the day remain from 4 to 6 ° C above normal in Sindh, Southern Punjab and Baluchistan during the forecast period. In Central and Superior Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Cashmira and Gilgit-Baltistan, the temperatures are likely to remain 5-7 ° C above normal.
