The Punjab Department of Interior granted on Thursday a 90 -day special remission in prison sentences in Punjab prison on behalf of Eidul Azha.
Pakistan would observe Eidul Azha on June 7, the Central Committee of Ruet-I-Hilal (RHC) of Moon Viring, announced last month after the crescent for the month of Zilhaj was not sighted.
According to the spokesman of the Department of Origin, 450 prisoners will benefit from the order of remission of sentences, while 270 prisoners have been released to hold EID with their families.
Regarding the instructions of Punjab Prime Minister, Maryam Nawaz, the Secretary of the Interior issued a notification for the remission of the sentences of the prisoners.
The notification of June 5, a copy of which is available with Dawn.comHe said: “In the exercise of the power conferred under rule 216 of the Pakistan Prison Rules 1978, ninety (90) days, the special referral to the prisoners confined in Punjab prisons on Punjab prisons on the occasion of Eidul Azha.”
It is also read that the prisoners did not allow the special remission to include those who were punished under the crimes of the prison during the last year, those who benefited by rule 216 during the year and those convicted of financial embezzlement and damage to the national treasure.
He added that forgiveness does not apply to prisoners who were “sentenced to crimes/cases under chapter XVI of PPC (289 to 377) espionage, subversion, anti-state activities, sectarianism, terrorist acts (they are defined in anti-terrorism crime (second amendment), 1999, drug addens and drug offenses (Sec. Ordiannce 1979, 376 ppc, theft (section 394 ppc), Dacoity (section 395-396 ppc), kidnapping/abduction (section 364-A and 365-A) Law of foreigners of 1946. “.
