President Zardari tests positive for coronavirus: physician – Pakistan

President Asif Ali Zardari has tested positive for Coronavirus and is currently isolated, according to a statement issued by the Presidency on Wednesday.

The media, citing Fuentes, reported yesterday that President Zardari had been hospitalized in Karachi after being brought from Nawabshah, where he had offered Eidul Fitros prayers.

The president’s personal doctor, Dr. As Hussain, said in the statement that after multiple tests, it was confirmed that Zardi tested positive for COVID-19.

“The president suffers from Coronavirus and has been advised to remain isolated at this time,” said Dr. Hussain. “A team of experts is taking care of the president and his condition is improving.”

Today early, Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the health of President Zardari was improving and refuted reports that he was transferred to Dubai to receive medical treatment.

“The reports about President Asif Ali Zardari transferred to Dubai for treatment are inaccurate,” Mecon wrote in X in the early hours of Wednesday, sharing a collage of media reports based on sources.

The Minister, a key leader of the PPP of Zardari, said that the president’s health was “improving and inshallah (god deeply), will be very soon.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also contacted the president to ask about his health and wish him for a rapid recovery.

The PPP senator, Sehar Kamran, in a publication about X, also wished the president “good health and a rapid recovery.”

“That Allah Almighty grants him a long, happy and satisfactory life. President Zardari is an icon of the National Unity, his resistance continues to inspire us all,” he wrote.

When it was contacted for a comment, a source close to the party had said Dawn.com that he was “experiencing some tests and would be discharged soon.”

A statement from the Governor of Sindh Kamran Tessori said he called the president’s doctor and asked about Zardari’s health while expressing his wishes.

At 69, President Zardari has had multiple health problems in recent years.

He tested positive for COVID-19 in July 2022, but only experienced “mild symptoms,” according to his son and president of PPP, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.

The president had fractured his foot as he advised against a plane in October 2024. After the fall, he was immediately taken to a hospital to receive treatment. After a check, the doctor placed his foot in a cast.

In March 2023, he underwent ocular surgery in the United Arab Emirates.

In 2022, Zardari was admitted to Dr. Ziauddin Hospital of Dr. Ziauddin de Karachi for a week for the treatment of chest infection. Amid the rumors of poor health, his personal doctor and close assistant, Dr. Asi, had confirmed that he was “in good health.”

A year before that, Zardari was admitted to a private hospital in Karachi due to “effort and exhaustion” caused by his frequent trips.
