NEW DELHI: Prashant Kishor, the founder of the Jan Suraaj Partyhas been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Tuesday at Medanta Hospital in Patna.
The political strategist-turned-politician was hospitalized this morning after suffering from dehydration and an infection, according to party sources cited by news agency PTI.
The treating doctor reported on his health and said, “There are certain medical problems that need to be carefully examined. He is suffering from infection and dehydration. He is also weak and feels unwell.”
Before his admission to the hospital, Kishor told reporters: “My fast unto death will continue.”
Kishor had been in a hunger strike to express solidarity with the students of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). It is believed that prolonged fasting contributed to his deteriorating health.
On Monday morning, authorities detained Kishor following an FIR lodged the previous week. The charges stemmed from his “fast to death” protest at Gandhi Maidan, which contravened a Patna High Court directive limiting such demonstrations to the Gardani Bagh area. He was later granted bail.
Kishor has aligned himself with the ongoing demonstrations of civil service candidates demanding cancellation of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exams held last month, amidst allegations of question paper leak.
His hunger strike, which began on January 2, led to his arrest on Monday and then his subsequent release on unconditional bail.
