The Karachi police briefly stopped government employees who protested by walks and salary promotions after initially using tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowds.
Traffic grunts were also caused in several areas due to confrontations.
South Police General Inspector Syed Asad Raza said Syed Asad Raza Dawn.com“Eighty -seven [protesters were] Arrested and released by the commitment to cancel the protest, ”he added that his future course of action would be announced after the 13th Muharam.
He said the police initially took measures when the negotiations between the representatives of the employees and the officials failed. “The Alliance of Employees of Sindh (Sea), an alliance of different departments of the employees of the Government of Sindh, marched towards the Chamber of the Principal Minister.
“The sea has made three main demands, including an increase of 70 percent of wages and pension of Sindh’s employees from grade 1 to 22, giving Dra (offspring of disparity reduction) of 50 percent to all employees of the same grades, and group insurance and the benevolent fund after the withdrawal of all employees of said degrees according to the pattern of the Balochista government.”
Dig Raza said that the leaders of the Alliance held conversations with officials, even with him, the Minister of Planning and Development, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, the Karachi Commissioner and Secretary of Finance of the commissioner’s office.
“The conversations failed since there was no agreement,” he said, adding that the protesters gathered outside the Karachi Press Club in the morning and planned to move towards the house CM.
The roads near the house CM were already locked by the agencies of application of the law, he said, and added that the police used water cannons to disperse the protesters who marched to the Aiwan–I-Saddar road, near the governor’s house.
Protestant witnesses and leaders said Dawn.com that the police also used tear gas shells.
“They dispersed and diverted towards the place of protest at the Karachi Press Club after police action,” said Dig Raza, added that no one was arrested.
In statements to the media outside the KPC, Ashraf Khaskheli de Sea, Zamir Chandio and other leaders said that the police resorted to “torture” while dispersing the protesters.
They said they would plan a future course of action and planned to move towards Bilawal House in Clifton for their demands.
The leaders said that provincial minister Nasir Shah had “accepted” his demands, but Sindh’s prime minister Syed Murad Ali Shah looked for three days for conversations.
Early today, Nasir told the media that the government of Sindh would try to address the legitimate demands of employees.
“It has been a priority of the Government led by PPP to provide jobs to young people,” said Nasir, added that he would file the demands before CM Murad.
In addition, he said that, although everyone had the right to protest, such protests should not occur, since they cause inconvenience to the general public.
