The Senator of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Irfan-Ul-Haque Siddiqui has strongly denied rumors that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif intends to run for president or is doing a political return.
His statement is produced in the middle of previous speculation that President Asif Ali Zardari would resign from his position. However, the news was rejected throughout the political spectrum.
Speaking during the Dawn news The ‘Dusra Rukh’ program on Wednesday night, Siddiqui categorically denied any development of this type, saying: “Nawaz Sharif has not expressed the desire to become president, nor has there been a discussion about it.”
“There is no truth in the speculation that Nawaz Sharif is trying to change the system to become president itself. These are unfounded table stories.”
He added that there was a time when it was inconceivable that Zardari became president, but the decision was made due to the situation, moment and political climate.
Siddiqui had also denied the reports of Zarari’s resignation. Speaking in the Geo News program “Geo Pakistan”, he said: “He reports that Zardari is renouncing, the children of Imran come, Nawaz Sharif goes to Adiala … These are not news. They are false, table stories.”
He had said: “Zardari has not created any difficulty for the government and includes its constitutional responsibilities as head of state.”
The PML-N leader had said that his party “had no problems” working with the president and there was no credible reason to get him out of office. “We have a coalition with the PPP. Why would we demolish this system?” He questioned.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had also refuted rumors that President Zardari was asked to resign, qualifying him as a “malicious campaign.”
“We are fully aware of who is behind the malicious campaign addressed to President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the head of the Army staff,” Naqvi wrote in X.
“I have categorically declared that there has been no discussion, nor is such an idea about the president that he is asked to resign or that they aspire to assume the presidency,” he said.
He said the president enjoys a strong and respectful relationship with the leadership of the armed forces. He quoted President Zardari as “clearly” said: “I know who is spreading these falsehoods, why they are doing it and who benefits from this propaganda.”
Naqvi emphasized that the “only approach” of Army Field Marshal’s chief was also the strength and stability of Pakistan.
