Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian president Masoud Peeshkian had a telephone conversation on Saturday night, during which the first welcomed Iran’s preparation to help descalize tensions between Pakistan and India, the state of Tehran, Tehran, Run de Tehran IRNA reported.
The April 22 attack in Pahalgam saw 26 people, mostly tourists, killed in what is described as the most fatal armed attack in the disputed Himalayas region since 2000. The responsibility was allegedly claimed by the Resistance Front until now unknown (TRF).
Since the incident, nations with nuclear weapons have unleashed a series of measures with each other, with India unilaterally suspending the critical treaty of the Indo Aguas (IWT) and Pakistan taking reprisals by threatening to put the Simla agreement on abandonment and close their airspace for Indian flights.
India has involved the cross -border links of the attackers, while Pakistan strongly denied any participation.
According to the report, Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated his official invitation to the Iranian President and welcomed Iran’s willingness to help relieve tensions.
The prime minister also emphasized that Pakistan sought peace in the region and that if Iran wishes to play a role in this regard, Islamabad would appreciate it.
“Pakistan condemns all forms of terrorism and has no connection with the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, located in the Cashmirian region controlled by India,” reads the statement.
In addition, the prime minister also repeated that Pakistan is ready to “participate in a transparent and impartial investigation into the terrorist attack”, saying that the country has been one of the greatest victims of terrorism in the last two decades, with thousands of its citizens losing their lives and the government spending billions of dollars to combat this threat.
Regarding India’s decision on the swing of the Indo’s waters with Pakistan, he said that the water of arms was “unacceptable and that Islamabad will defend at any cost.”
The agency also reported that the prime minister, “said solidarity with the Iranian government and people after the powerful explosion in the port of Shahid Rajaee, saying that Islamabad is ready to help Tehran address this incident.”
The president of Iran, fishshkian, for his part, thanked the prime minister “for his solidarity regarding the incident in Shahid Rajaee Port” and praised Pakistan’s efforts for “Peace in the region.”
“Iranian President invited the Pakistani prime minister to visit Tehran and, in return, Sharif renewed his invitation to fishshkian to visit Islamabad,” reads the report.
