Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed from London on Monday for New York, where he will direct Pakistan’s delegation in a high level segment of the United Nations General Assembly (UGA).
In the Unga session, Prime Minister Shehbaz “will urge the international community to resolve situations of prolonged occupation and the denial of the right to self -determination,” particularly in Kashmir and Palestine occupied by India, said an earlier statement from the Foreign Office (FO).
“It will also highlight Pakistan’s perspective on the regional security situation, as well as other issues of international concern, including climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia and sustainable development.”
The FO, in his statement, said that Prime Minister Shehbaz would attend several “high -level events” apart from the Unga session, including a dish of “selected” Muslim leaders with the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
In addition, during his visit, he will meet with several world leaders and high UN officials to exchange opinions on issues of mutual interest.
“It will also underline Pakistan’s resolution to work with all UN Member States to defend the UN Charter, avoid conflicts, promote peace and promote global prosperity in Pakistan’s current role as a member of the Security Council,” added the FO.
Today, the High Commissioner of Pakistan in the United Kingdom, Dr. Muhammad Faisal and other diplomatic personnel saw the prime minister at Luton airport in the United Kingdom.
Previously, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in New York and will accompany Prime Minister Shehbaz in the Unga.
“Upon arrival, FM Dar was received by Ambassador to Iphtikhar Ahmad, permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN, Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Shiekh, Pakistan ambassador to the United States and senior mission officials,” said Fo in X.
“The DPM/FM will have an occupied program in New York. In addition to accompanying the prime minister to its many commitments, the DPM/FM will represent Pakistan in numerous ministerial and high -level meetings and will also hold more than a dozen bilateral meetings with their counterparts,” the statement added.
As almost 150 world leaders meet to commemorate the 80 anniversary of the UN, the global peace forum is surrounded by protests and wrapped in wars.
Since its inception, the unresolved issue of Palestine has persecuted the UN, testing both its credibility and its ability to offer peace.
A high -level international conference for the “peaceful settlement of the issue of Palestine and the implementation of the solution of two states” in the UNGA, co -presided by France and Saudi Arabia, aims to revive support for a solution of two states.
In a break with the convention, the UGA voted last week to allow Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to address the video link event, after the United States denied him already his delegation visas attending the meeting.
