PM Shehbaz addresses Afghan border situation with federal cabinet

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addresses the federal cabinet on the border situation with Afghanistan following the recent hostilities with the country.

Pakistan and Afghanistan on Wednesday agreed to a temporary ceasefire after a new round of deadly cross-border clashes that threatened to escalate into a broader conflict. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said the ceasefire, implemented at the request of the Taliban and with mutual consent, came into effect at 6 p.m. local time and would last 48 hours.

The announcement came following sustained hostilities between the two countries over the weekend.

Addressing a federal cabinet meeting today on the situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz said Pakistani officials had visited Kabul many times and engaged in cordial dialogue to resolve their problems along with mutual agreement for the sake of peace and prosperity.
