A small plane crashed into a Nebraska River on Friday night, killing the three passengers, according to the authorities.
The plane crashed into the Platte River south of Fremont, or about 40 miles northwest of Omaha, according to a statement from the Dodge County Sheriff’s office. The bodies of three occupants of the plane were recovered but not yet publicly identified, Sheriff’s office said.
The authorities added that the Federal Board of Transportation Security and the National Transportation Administration was taking charge of the investigation.
Jennifer Gabris, a NTSB spokeswoman, said in a statement that an NTSB researcher is expected to arrive on the scene this afternoon.
“Once on the site, the researcher will begin the process of documenting the scene and examining the plane,” he said. “The aircraft will recover a safe installation for an additional evaluation.”
He added that during the stage of the research process, “the NTSB does not determine or speculate on the cause of the accident” and that a preliminary report with more information will be available within 30 days.
A FAA spokesman confirmed the accident in an email and said the NTSB will be in charge of the investigation.
The accident occurs in the middle of a series of shocks of similar aircraft and helicopters in recent weeks.
Last month, a single -engine plane crashed into a house in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, killing the only person on board and causing a fire.
On April 10, a tourist helicopter crashed into the Hudson River near New York City, killing the pilot and a young family of five. The next day, another small plane crashed in Boca Mouse, Florida, killing the three passengers on board.
And on April 12, a private plane crashed while preparing for a second landing attempt at Columbia County in New York, again killing all passengers on board.
