Picnickers stopped from visiting five ‘unguarded’ beaches in Karachi – Pakistan

Karachi: The city administration has imposed a prohibition of eight days to visit five beaches without surveillance due to high tides and sea conditions.

The ban will remain in place until June 13 and applies to the beaches of Kannup, Sunerah, Mubarak Village, Turtle and Dua Chowk.

Official sources said there were no restrictions on people to visit other beaches in the city, including Sandspit, Hawkesbay, Paradise Point and Seaview, since these beaches were guarded by lifeguards and law agents.

Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi imposed the prohibition under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure at the request of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

The order authorized the sho in question to register FIR in section 188 of the Pakistan Criminal Code against the prohibition offenders.

The officials said that a prohibition of swimming on other beaches could be imposed in view of the monsoon season, when there was a relatively high tide.
