The Philadelphia police are investigating, and a student from the University of the Temple has been suspended, after an anti -Semitic incident at the Barstool Sports Bar in the city on Saturday night.
The video posted on social networks shows a woman who seems to be a server in Barstool Sansom Street with a sign that is included in the service tables. The sign foresees an anti -Jewish message containing blasphemies, which a man seen in the video repeats several times.
Barstool Sansom Street did not immediately respond to a comment request on Sunday night.
Police are collecting information and will provide an update “as soon as possible,” said Officer Tanya Little, a spokeswoman for the Philadelphia Police Department, in a statement on Sunday.
Temple University said in a statement on Sunday that school students “were involved in an anti -Semitic incident in a location outside the” night before.
The school said he identified a student who believed he had been involved and placed that student in an interim suspension. He did not appoint the student.
The Division of Student Affairs is investigating, and the school said that any other person who has been involved “will face strict disciplinary action”, including the possible expulsion.
“In the stronger terms possible, allow me to be clear: anti -Semitism is abhorrent,” said Temple University John Fry in the statement. “It does not take place in the temple and the acts of hate and discrimination against any person or person are not tolerated in this university.”
The founder of Barstool, Dave Portnoy, commented on the incident on Sunday in a video full of expletives posted on social networks called an “emergency press conference.”
Portnoy, who is Jewish, said he was so angry that he shook for two hours by the incident. He said he was making the mission of his life “ruin these people,” and added that “it comes for your throat.” He affirmed his tone in a subsequent publication, saying that the incident can serve as a “teaching moment.”
Portnoy said in a posterior that the two bottles service workers served at the table have been fired.
In the first video, Portnoy said he had talked to one of the two servers, a man who was labeled in the video shared on social networks and one of the people Portnoy said “he did.” He said in a later publication that gave the culprits “1 hour to do it well.”
The bar security images indicated that the person labeled in the video published on social networks was not in the establishment at the time of the incident, Portnoy said.
“What I am saying is that I am getting the names. I am trying to be a bit responsible. I am trying to keep it together. But I am in that,” Portnoy said.
Portnoy closed his publications on Sunday’s social networks on the matter with a second video of “emergency press conference.”
When reflecting, Portnoy said, his initial reaction to “burn these people to the ground” was not the best course of action.
“Let’s try, as, convert a horrible incident into perhaps a learning experience,” he said.
Portnoy said he spoke with the two people who allegedly ordered the Anti -Jewish sign, as well as with their families. He said they agreed to send them to visit Auschwitz, a concentration camp of World War II that now offers tours and educational materials.
He said they hope they learn something and that in the future they think twice before throwing words.
“For me, that is a fair result of this event,” Portnoy said. “We are going to send them … to Auschwitz and learn a little about history and, hopefully, you know, be educated and use it as a moment of teaching, not only for them, but perhaps for everyone.”
