A man in Peshawar was hired under the positions of Cybersonal and harassment on Friday by the National Crime Crime Investigation Agency (Nccia) after allegedly threatened to filter personal photos of the plaintiff online.
In a statement, Nccia said that the suspect, who was arrested from the Faqirabad area of Peshawar, was publishing photos of the plaintiff in Tiktok and had threatened to publish photos of an obscene nature on the platform.
“The incident caused mental and social damage to the victim,” said the Nccia.
A first information report (FIR) has been registered against the suspect under section 16 (unauthorized use of identity information), section 20 (crimes against the dignity of a natural person) and section 24 (Cyberstalking) of the Law on the Prevention of Electronic Crimes, as well as section 419 (trap by characters) and section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Criminal Code.
The investigation officer, the sub -inspector Mikhtiar Ahmed, said in a statement that strict measures would be taken against those involved in such activities, qualifying him as a “serious crime.”
According to a Digital Right Foundation report, a total of 3,171 complaints of gender violence (TFGBV) were received provided by technology throughout the country in 2024.
A large number of women in the country in all groups and age classes continue to face violence and support sexual, mental and physical abuse despite the improvements in education, according to a 2023 report of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
On Wednesday, the National Assembly urged the Government to guarantee strict punishment to those involved in unauthorized video recording, cyber harassment and digital defamation.
In June, the National Cybersecurity Authority urged citizens to use social networks responsible and remain attentive to cyber threats.
The body pointed out that women are “frequently attacked” with cyber harassment, identity theft and abuse based on images, risks that “aggravate more broad social inequalities.”
