Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Wednesday that the ministries will be evaluated every two months after the determination of key performance indicators, administered by the State Pakistan radio reported.
By chairing a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister said that the ministries that demonstrate strong performance will be praised.
“As of this year, we will determine the key performance indicators so that the ministries evaluate their performance every two months,” he said, emphasizing that improving the performance of the ministries was, ultimately, about delivery and service to the nation.
Expressing satisfaction with the stock market that touches record levels this week, the prime minister said that development reflected the positive commercial feeling and that collective efforts were being made for the economic growth of the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz also expressed pain and sadness for the loss of lives in the recent rains of the monsoon throughout the country. He regretted especially from the Swat incident, emphasizing the need to take effective measures in the future to avoid such incidents.
Monzónic rains in Pakistan have been linked to more than 110 deaths, including dozens of children, since they began at the end of June, according to government figures published on Monday.
On Tuesday, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated their commitment to work together for the good of the country.
“The meeting involved discussions about the political, economic and security situation of the country. The rule of law and order in the country and measures against terrorism was also discussed,” according to a press release from the presidency.
Last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz said that transforming the obsolete system into a model of modern, digital and effective governance is among the main priorities of the government, since economic development and prosperity are not possible without modernizing the system to meet contemporary demands.
The cabinet approves the 15pc increase in EOBI pensions
The Federal Cabinet approved a 15 percent increase in pensions provided by the employee -age benefits institution (EOBI), as of January 1, 2025, on the recommendation of the Ministry of Pakistan abroad and development of human resources, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
This increase will be financed from the institution’s own resources, according to Application.
The prime minister directed the formation of a cabinet committee to introduce institutional reforms in EOBI.
The Committee will also deliberate on the proposals to extend the benefits of old times to the informal labor sector, including domestic workers, agricultural workers and other marginalized employment categories that have previously been overlooked.
These reforms aim to ensure that workers in these careless sectors receive their due rights.
The Cabinet also approved the start of the necessary legal procedures regarding the draft Law on Maritime Transport shipping 2025, on the recommendation of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs.
On the recommendation of the Ministry of National Health Services, the Cabinet approved an extension of five years of the exemption on the importation of anti -cancer, cardiac and saviors medications used in hospitals and related medical care institutions.
These medications are considered vital to save human lives, and exemption is intended to guarantee their prompt availability.
These medications will be available only in authorized hospitals and institutions, with the prohibition of open market sales. The importation of these medications will require the prior approval of the corresponding licensing authority.
The federal cabinet also supported the decisions taken at the meetings of the Cabinet Committee on legislative cases held on July 2 and 3.
