Peavey Mart de Weyburn, located in the center of the city of Saskatchewan, was seen as an attraction to take business to the central area, said Laura Morrissette.

Before becoming councilor of the city of the city of about 11,000 people, she worked at Peavey Mart, which she brings good memories.

“I really loved Peavey Mart because I could give people that true service to the practical client … I was always proud to do that,” said Morrissette.

“You know many unique people, and we had a mantra in Peavey Mart: ‘If you can’t find it in Peavey Mart, you probably don’t need it anyway.”

The popular agricultural supply store Peavey Mart says that after almost 60 years in the business, it is closing all places throughout the country and seeking protection of creditors. Buyers in Saskatchewan say that losing the store will be difficult.

The store was known for offering a vital service to rural communities, storing everything, from food for horses to agricultural equipment and even living chickens.

While Morrissette has good memories, such as people who come to buy Peavey Marta toys during the Christmas season or order bees that were sent from Australia, the effect of losing jobs due to the closure of the store is essential for her, especially Because the employees who work there knows.

“Any city that has a Peavey Mart in it will be affected, because it is the loss of jobs, it is the loss of taxes for the city, which is, for me, something very underlying, because we definitely do not want to see the loss of employment in our community “.

Weyburn mayor Jeff Richards said he hopes the city can find another retailer to fill that place that will soon be vacant.

“[It’s] The only place where I know where you can get a spike wire roll, a chocolate bar and a pair of work boots, “he said.

Customers outside other stores in stores shared similar feelings, such as Prentice Willy, who said he bought work and garden items at the Saskatoon Peavey Mart for years.

“I’m not happy with that. I would like it to remain open,” he said. “I enjoyed the store. It has always been good for me.”

CBC communicated with Peavey Mart to find out when the last business day would be for its Saskatchewan locations, but the company did not respond before the publication.

The stores in Manitoba have told customers that they will be closed within five months.
