A member of the Peace Committee lost his life during an exchange with militants in the Begukhel area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Lakki Marwat district, police said Sunday.
The incident reflects the growing militant presence in Lakki Marwat, where attacks have become more frequent in recent months despite the continuous efforts of local peace committees to maintain order and resist terrorist influence.
According to a police statement, “about 50 militants attacked Begukhel’s village with small and heavy weapons on Saturday night in an apparent act of revenge.”
The Peace Committee and the local people responded vigorously, according to the statement.
“During the two -hour meeting, a volunteer of the Peace Committee was killed,” he said.
Police and security forces are underway in the area in the area, the statement added.
On Thursday, the Commands of the Police and Contractorism Department (CTD) launched a joint operation against terrorists in the rural areas of the district.
Last month, the local elders announced that they would fight against the elements on the side of the police to effectively eradicate the threat of district terrorism.
On April 28, the murder of an older man and hurting her from her two relatives and a neighbor for terrorists caused a fierce battle between the assailants and the members of a local peace committee.
Lakki Marwat has long been an access point for terrorism and violence, with disturbances that date back in the early 2000s. Although security operations brought a period of relative calm, the militant activity has resurfaced in recent years, striving local peace efforts and increasing fears of renewed instability.
