LAHORE: The officials of the Cricket Board (PCB) of Pakistan are concerned about the continuous decrease in the performance of national sides in the formats during the last two years, attributing to a large extent to the frequent changes in leadership, selectors, coaches and captains of the Board.
According to the sources, the matter was under a detailed discussion at the recent meeting of the Board of Governors (BOG), which lasted almost three hours, Sunrise has learned.
The president of PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, also attended the session for about 15 to 20 minutes. During the meeting, several departments of the PCB, including the International Cricket, the High Performance Center, the Legal Affairs and the Women’s Cricket, presented their reports to the swamp.
They said that the members expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the male senior team, the women’s team and the Pakistan Shaheens, questioning the international Crick department about continuous fall.
The Department, In ITS Response, Pointed to the Instability at the Top Level, Noting That The Board Has Worked Under Four Chairmen In Less than Three Years-From Ramiz Raja (2021-23) To Najam Sethi And Zaka Ashraf Mohsin Naqvi Since Februry 2024. With Each Chairman Bringing Wholesale Changes, Captains, Selectors and Coaches have repeatedly reorganized, creating greater uncertainty.
The department also stressed that in 2021 the PCB had restricted the series of bilateral tests to only two games. However, as of the next CPI cycle that begins in 2027, the Board has decided to return to complete housing and progress that includes at least three tests, three ODI and three international T20.
Although he recognized the financial cost of this approach, the authorities said it was necessary to improve performance standards.
Another factor cited was the closure of the National Cricket Academy in recent years, which, according to the International Department, negatively affected the development of the players. The Board has decided that Pakistan Shaheens will regularly play series against the main opponents, often next to the senior team.
The High Performance Center recommended that long -term appointments be carried out for captains, coaches and selectors to guarantee continuity. He assured BOG members that all national academies would soon be completely operational, with expected positive results within a year. While offering to provide information about the appointments, HPC officials emphasized that the final decisions fall to the president of PCB.
