The president of the Cricket Board of Pakistan (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, was appointed on Thursday the new president of the Asian Council of Cricket (ACC).
Indian Media reported last year that the president of PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, would become the next president of the Council according to his rotation policy. However, Shammi Silva, head of the Crick of Sri Lanka, was appointed president of the ACC, replacing Jay Shah, who was elevated to the position of president of the ICC on December 1.

According to a press release issued by the Council today, Naqvi assumed the prestigious role on April 3 (today), marking the beginning of a “new leadership chapter” for Asian Cricket.
“I feel deeply honest to assume the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council,” said the press release citing Naqvi.
“Asia is still the worldwide wallet, and I am committed to working with all the members of the gambling and the global influence. Together, we will unlock new opportunities, we will promote greater collaboration and take the Asian Cricket to unprecedented heights.
“I also extend my sincere thanks to the president of ACO outgoing for his leadership and contributions to the ACC during his mandate,” he added.
According to the press release, Silva said: “It has been a privilege to serve as president of the Cricket Asian Council.”
He said that the firm commitment of the members who work together was “fundamental to raise the stature of ACC throughout the region”, extending gratitude to his predecessor Jay Shah under whose leadership he said that the ACC had reached “significant milestones.”
“As I give up, I have full confidence that under the leadership capable of NAQVI, the ACC will continue its remarkable trip and prosper,” said the press release quoting.
The press release said that the president of PCB brought a visionary approach focused on “unity, innovation and strategic growth, reinforcing the position of Asia as the epicenter of the World Cricket.”
The ACC said that, under his leadership, he expected a “dynamic and collaborative future” with an improved commitment to development programs, the participation of young people and the elevation of the global prominence of Asian Cricket.
Separately, a press release issued by the PCB said that Pakistan would take care of the position immediately, leading to the Council in his mission of “promoting and expanding the Cricket” throughout the continent.
“With Pakistan to the helm, the ACC is ready to strengthen and expand further the presence of Crick in Asia, promoting growth and unity within sport,” he said.
