“Subject to the exigencies of government business, the session is likely to conclude on Friday, April 4, 2025,” an official statement said.
“The President will address both Houses of Parliament meeting in the Lok Sabha Chamber, Parliament House, New Delhi at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025,” it added.
This would be Sitharaman’s eighth budget (six annual and two interim), surpassing former Prime Minister Morarji Desai’s record for the highest number of budgets presented.
Since 2017, the Union Budget has been systematically presented on February 1 to allow announcements to take effect before the new financial year begins in April. However, before 1997, the budget was normally presented on the last working day of February, usually at 5pm.
The stock market would remain open that day, operating during normal hours to allow investors to respond to budget announcements.
