The VicePrimer Minister Ishaq Dar departed for an official trip to Dhaka on Saturday, marking the first state visit of a Minister of Foreign Affairs to Bangladesh in 13 years, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO).
Since a popular uprising in Bangladesh saw that the Sheikh Hasina government was shot down in August last year, there has been defrosting in the ties between Islamabad and Dhaka, with commercial and bilateral relations when seeing a marked improvement.
Dar embarked on a “historical visit to Bangladesh,” said the FO in X, when Prime Minister’s vice president left the Nur Khan Air Base in Rawalpindi. “In Dhaka, he will hold important meetings with Bangladesh leaders,” he added.
“The visit is a significant milestone in the relations of Pakistan-Bangladesh, since a Pakistani Foreign Minister is visiting Bangladesh after a gap of around 13 years,” Fo said.
GIV will hold important meetings with several leaders of Bangladesh, including the main advisor Muhammad Yunus and the Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain, according to a FO statement.
“The entire range of bilateral relations and a series of regional and international issues will be discussed during these meetings.”
The visit is produced immediately after the official tour of the Minister of Commerce Jam Kamal Khan to Dhaka, where he met with Bangladesh’s trade and industries.
The two countries are in the process of establishing a joint working group on trade to improve economic ties and promote greater cooperation in trade, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
