Jammu: Pakistani soldiers violated the high fire firing without provocation in forward areas along the loc in the Poonch district of J & K on Wednesday night. Security sources said the attack was an attempt to push terrorists to India, using coverage fire as a lure.
“Our border guards gave an adequate response in the same caliber. There are no immediate reports of victims or damage to our side, ”said an official source.
The two nations had previously agreed to “strict observance” of all peace agreements and fire. However, Pakistan has repeatedly violated the agreement.
One of the most flagrant violations occurred on September 11 last year, when the shooting from the other side of the border killed a BSF soldier in the Jammu sector of Akhnoor, and another was shot dead when the Pakistan rangers shot to Indian positions in Samba in November 2023.
The last dismissal comes in the midst of hostilities rising along the loc. Security forces anticipate an early start to infiltration attempts this year, since the snow melted in mountainous regions facilitates movement for terrorists.
“The winter pause, which usually extends for several months, can be shorter than usual this year due to the increase in temperatures,” said a security source.
Recent attacks highlight the growing threat. On Monday, a shot fired from the other side of the border hit a soldier in a front stall in the Newshera sector of the Rajouri district. On February 8, the shots of a forest through the LOC pointed to an army patrol in the Keri sector in Rajouri.
On Tuesday, Captain Karamjit Singh Bakshi, 27, and Naik Mikesh Singh Manhas, 29, lost their lives in an IED attack near Loc in Akhnoor.
Security sources estimate that 70 to 80 Pakistani terrorists are active in J&K, with 55 to 60 in the JAMMU region. These “highly trained intruders” operate in small groups, equipped with weapons such as M4 carbines and thermal image devices. Its ability to coordinate attacks on the resistant field, which offers wide natural coverage, raises a great challenge.
