Two people were arrested and accused in a scheme to steal and resell online tickets for the “period tour” of Taylor Swift, winning more than $ 600,000 in the process, said the office of the prosecutor of Queens, New York.
Tyrone Rose, 20, from Kingston, Jamaica and Shamara Simmons, 31, of the Queens Jamaica section, New York, were arrested for theft positions, conspiracy and manipulation of computers last week, said the office of the Queens District Prosecutor on Monday.
The tickets were stolen from Stubhub by two people who work for a third -party contractor in Kingston, said the district prosecutor in a statement.
The URLs for the tickets were sent to Queens, where Simmons and another person who since then died and returned to Sol in Stubhub, the office said.
Around 350 orders from Stubhub, which result in the theft of around 993 tickets, were kidnapped in the cyber crimes scheme, prosecutors said.
Most were for the huge popular “Eras Tour” by Taylor Swift, the office said.
Rose was one of the two people who allegedly worked in Jamaica and stole the tickets by redirecting the URLs that they were supposed to be sent to people who bought them legitimately, said the district prosecutor’s office.
Simmons and the person now deceased are accused of working on the side of Queens of the scheme, which occurred between June 2022 and July 2023.
While the “period tour” constituted most of the tickets that were stolen, other stolen tickets included the entrance to Adele and Ed Sheeran performances, as well as the NBA games and the US Open tennis championships, said the district prosecutor’s office.
Stolen tickets were worth around $ 635,000, prosecutors said.
Stubhub notified Queens prosecutors, the third party seller where the two Jamaican members of the scheme worked, and said the Jamaican police as soon as he identified the robberies, brand currents, legal director of Stubhub.
“Stubhub has replaced or reimbursed all identified orders affected and strengthened security measures to further protect our fans and vendors,” said Streams.
Stubhub said he ended his relationship with the third party supplier involved.
Rose and Simmons were arrested and processed in the Court in New York on Thursday. Each is accused of second grade, computer manipulation in the first degree, fourth grade conspiracy and fourth -grade computers manipulation, said the district prosecutor’s office.
The lawyers that appear in the judicial records that represent Rose and Simmons could not be contacted on Tuesday night or did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
