New Delhi: More than 29,500 drones are registered in India, and national capital has the maximum number in 4,882, according to official data. After the national capital, the largest number of registered drones are found in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra with 4,588 and 4,132, respectively.
The data of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Updated until January 29 showed that there were 29,501 registered drones.
Other states that have a high number of registered drones include Haryana (3,689), Karnataka (2,516), Telangana (1,928), Gujarat (1,338) and Kerala (1,318), according to data shared by the Ministry of Civil Aviation with Rajya Sabha this week.
Until now, the regulator has issued 96 certificates of type to different models or drones of the unmanned aircraft (UAS) system, and of them, 65 models are for agricultural purposes.
Each registered drone issues a unique identification number (UIN) of the SKY digital platform, operated by the DGCA. Remote pilot training organizations (Rptos) authorized by DGCA have issued 22,466 Remote Pilot Certificates (RPC).
Sharing the data as part of a written response, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muryidhar Mohol also said that the central government has taken several measures to increase the use of drone technology In several sectors. Among other measures, the Ministry amended the standards in August last year, so the passport requirement for the registration and unincription/transfer of a drone was discarded.
Since then, voter identification, ration card or driver’s license can be used for registration and unincription or drone transfer. There is a map of drone airspace, which is divided into three zones: green, yellow and red.
There is no need for previous permission to operate drones in the green zone, while air traffic control (ATC) in question has to approve drones operations in the yellow zone.
For flying drones in the red zone, the central government must grant permission.
