The Oslo Police on Friday announced charges against Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of the Princess of the Crown of Norway, for multiple positions that include rape, sexual assault and body damage after a month of investigation of a case that involved a number of “two digits” of alleged victims.
Høiby, the 28-year-old son of the princess of the Mette-Marit crown and stepson of the throne heir, the heir prince Haakon, has been under scrutiny since he was repeatedly arrested in 2024 in the midst of accusations of rape and preliminary charges of body damage and criminal damage.
The Oslo Police lawyer, Andreas Kruszewski, said that Høiby was cooperative during the police interrogation, which is now complete. The evidence in the case was extracted from sources that include text messages, testimonies of witnesses and police searches, police lawyer said.
The charges included a case of rape that involves sexual relations and two cases of rape without sexual relations, four cases of sexual assault and two cases of body damage, said Kruszewksi at a press conference.
“I can’t go into more details about the number of victims in the case beyond confirming that it is a two -digit number,” he said.
The defense lawyer Petar Sekulic, in an email to Associated Press, said that Høiby was “taking the accusations very seriously, but does not recognize any irregularity in most cases, especially cases related to sexual abuse and violence.”
The Royal Palace said that “the case advances through the legal system and follows normal procedures. We have nothing more to add.”
The case was the main news in Norway, where the real ones are popular.
Høiby previously lived with the royal couple and their two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, but now lives in a nearby separated house, according to Sekulic.
Høiby is still free awaiting a possible trial and has the right to a presumption of innocence until a court rule the opposite.
Once affectionately known as “Little Marius”, Høiby grew up in the public eye enjoying the same wealth and privilege as his royal brothers, although his biological father, Morton Borg, fulfilled time in prison for drugs and violent crimes. Hoiby has recognized the use and addiction of cocaine.
The future Queen of Norway was news in 2001 when she married Haakon, because she was a single mother who had lived a free life with a partner who had been convicted of drug positions.
