One person was killed while another was injured in a landslide near Astore in Gilgit-Baltistan on Wednesday night, according to rescue officials.
Rescue 1122 Wazir Asad officer said Dawn.com that the landslides caused by an intense rain blocked the path of Astore to Dashkan for 24 hours. “A car was beaten by a landslide, killing one person and hurting another,” he confirmed.
Meanwhile, the connection of the land between the district of Astore and Gilgit was also cut by landslides. A local resident named Rafiullah told him Dawn.com that the road was closed due to an avalanche in Astore.
According to the Gilgit-Baltistan government, a landslide in the upper area of Kohistan Acha Nallah has cut the connection of the land between Gilgit-Baltistan and Rawalpindi.
Muhammad Haroon, deputy director of the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority, issued a statement that advises travelers to remain in hotels and avoid traveling due to the risk of landslides.
The Baltistan police spokesman Ghulam Muhammad said in a statement that the Baltistan road was blocked in two places due to landslides caused by rain, which reduced the connection of the land between Gilgit and four districts of Baltistan. “Many travelers and tourists have been stranded,” reads the statement.
The Department of Meteorology has predicted more snowfall and rain during the next two days.
