At least one person was killed and several more were injured in an alleged car embolism in the city of Mannheim of Western Germany on Monday, police said.
“As part of the search measures that began immediately, a suspect was identified and arrested. No more, reliable information can be published beyond the information published so far,” said Mannheim’s police in a statement.
The police would not clarify the number or severity of the injuries and did not publish information about the suspect.
An important police operation was being carried out and people were urged to avoid the city center, which has been occupied due to an current carnival season. The Mannheimer Morgan newspaper spoke with an ocular witness who saw a car lead to several pedestrians.
The news occurs only 18 days after two people died and at least 28 people were injured in a car in Munich, after which the police said that the alleged driver, a 24 -year -old Afghan national, may have had an “extremist background.”
