Omar says government will develop religious circuits, boost Jammu’s economy

Jammu: Omar Abdullah, Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmira, said Tuesday that his government will develop and advertise tourism points to attract Vaishno devi pilgrims to Jammu and nearby places, reaffirming its commitment to boost the economy of the region.
Responding to a supplementary consultation by Yudhvir Sethi, MLA, in the Assembly, the CM, which is also responsible for the Tourism Department, said that efforts are being made to advertise all tourism assets in the region.
“The department is actively working on the development of the Jammu pilgrimage circuit. I have repeatedly emphasized this in more than 1 crore kill vaishno devi pilgrims. If you can encourage 10% -15% of them to visit other tourist destinations in JAMMU, it will significantly benefit the region. However, we have not been able to achieve this so far, ”he said.
“Our goal is to develop structured itineraries for pilgrimage tours of three days, four and seven days and promote them effectively. We will ensure the generalized distribution of promotional literature in commercial and tourist fairs to attract visitors, ”he said.
“Developing tourist destinations is not enough. The sites such as the reference points of the heritage of Jammu, the next Lake Jammu and the JAMMU zoo are significant attractions, but they need a better brand and visibility, “he said, adding:” We must give these destinations a different identity and promote them effectively. It is true that until now there has been no adequate advertising, but we are committed to addressing this. “
Previously, in response to a star issue of Sethi, Omar highlighted the efforts of the Tourism Department in the Development of Infrastructure to attract more tourists to the city of Jammu. “Several projects have been implemented under the state budget of Capex and the Swadesh Darshan scheme,” he told the Chamber.
