Odor at Charlotte Douglas International Airport sends crew members to hospital

An informed smell at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport sent several crew members to the hospital on Friday, said American Airlines in a statement.

Before the passengers boarded flight 2055 on Friday, the smell was reported, said the airline.

The crew members received medical attention on the site, said the airline, and added that some were taken to the hospital, where they were treated and then discharged.

NBC Wcnc Charlotte affiliate reported that seven people were taken to the hospital to receive treatment. Six people had minor injuries and a person had serious symptoms, the exit reported.

It was not clear immediately what the smell was or where it came from. The nature of the injuries was not clear either, but WCNC reported that they were the result of inhaling something.

The plane involved was taken as a service and will be inspected, said American Airlines.
