Nova Scotia MP Chris d’Entremont is out of the Conservative caucus, a party spokesperson told CBC News.
The spokesman said d’Entremont resigned.
The veteran Conservative, who served in provincial politics before being elected to the House of Commons in 2019, told Politico earlier Tuesday that he was considering crossing the floor and would make a decision on his future “in the coming days” after reviewing the federal budget, which was tabled this afternoon.
d’Entremont’s departure means the minority Liberal government potentially needs fewer opposition votes to get this budget through the House of Commons.
Conservative deputy leader Melissa Lantsman said d’Entremont was betraying her constituents.
“Chris made a decision and I think the decision is not to fight inflation, not to fight to lower grocery prices, as his constituents chose him to do,” he said in an interview with CBC. Power and politics shortly after the news broke.
More to come.
