Notifications stir confusion over donation of cabinet members’ pay – Newspaper

Islamabad: The confusion arose on Wednesday after different government notifications seemed to contradict each other with respect to the donation of the salaries of the federal cabinet members for the victims of floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Finance Division issued a notification that suggests the withdrawal of a directive so that the members of the cabinet donate the salary of one month.

However, another notification of the same division declared that the payment of a day of high -level bureaucrats of degrees 19 to 22 will be donated to the victims of floods.

Meanwhile, prime minister’s office clarified that the decision to donate the salary of one month of cabinet members has not retired, and that their salaries will be donated to the people affected by floods through another notification issued by the Division of the Cabinet.

The notification of the Cabinet Division said: “The prime minister has pleased to direct that all federal ministers, state ministers, special advisors and assistants to the prime minister will contribute to the salary of one month for the relief of floods.”

A senior official of the Prime Minister said that the apparent contradiction is due to the fact that the Finance Division deals with the salaries of the bureaucrats, while the division of the Cabinet supervises the salaries and benefits of the members of the cabinet.

“Although the notification of the Finance Division gave the impression that the announcement of the prime minister had been withdrawn, the ministers will definitely donate their monthly salary to the victims of the flood,” said the official.

Another notification of the Finance Division clarified that the contributions would be calculated on the gross salary and assignments before the deductions and would not be included in the taxable emoluments of officials and officials.
